Hawaii Itinerary: 3 days in Kauai

Oh Kauai. I had been dreaming about going to Kauai since like 2015, when I read Karina Halle’s romance novel, Heat Wave. I’m actually re-reading it right now and it has transported me back to Kauai with a steamy romance. This was probably the place I was most excited to visit because I had hyped it up in my head for so long and it seriously did not disappointed. It was definitely my favorite island that we visited and I feel like the experiences we had here were the most unforgettable of our trip to Hawaii. From crawling down slippery muddle slopes to get to gorgeous waterfalls, to dolphin spotting and helicopter rides. Kauai was IT. I definitely have to back to explore the North side of the island, (Hanalei area) because my one regret was not going here during our three days. My tips for going here would be try to get at least 4-5 days and rent a car WAY in advance.

RENTING A CAR IN KAUAI

Kauai is definitely an island you have to book a car way in advance for. We looked a month in advance and there was no rental cars. NONE. We ended up using Turo which was a great experience! We got the car at the airport and left it there at the end of our trip. It’s basically like the Airbnb of car rentals.

DAY 1

Check in to the Aston Islander On the Beach
Grab Lunch at Sleeping Giant Grill (basically right next to the Aston Islander)
Hike Wailua Falls – the way to get down is definitely not conventional. Check out my video here on how to find it!
On the way out stop at Waliua Falls Fruit Stand (take the time to talk to local owner Godwin – he is the sweetest)
Head to Beach at the Sheraton on Poipu – rent a lounger (depending on the time, you can get away with just sitting for free) the sunset here is STUNNING
Hike down to Wailua Falls

DAY 2

Morning Helicopter Tour – a MUST in Kauai in order to see the island – we booked with Sunshine Helicopters
Lunch at Kauai Island Brewing Co.
Drive through Waimea Canyon State Park & Kokee State Park – Grand Canyon like views!
Stop at Glass Beach (do not take any Glass!)
Na Pali Coast from the Helicopter

DAY 3

Na Pali Coast Power Catamaran Scenic and Snorkel Tour w/ GoBlue Adventures – a MUST, we had so much fun with GoBlue! This was 4 hours and we got to see the NaPali coast up close and personal (the only way to do it). We saw dolphins, turtles, ate good food and met some incredible people. Check out my video on the experience!
