København A Pastry

Copenhagen, København, a small city in which I hit 20K steps a day, ate too many pastries and went to bed way earlier than I should have thanks to a nasty cold. I arrived to Copenhagen on a Friday morning with five friends and after setting all our stuff down in a hostel (Urban House – so cheap and definitely great if you’re balling on a budget) we went on a hunt for pastries. Honestly, I can’t even recommend one place in Copenhagen for pastries because they were all so good. I think we went to three different places and I was not disappointed once. Now we are onto my recommendations! The first thing to note is that most everything in Copenhagen is walking distance. My friends and I didn’t spend a dime on public transport within the city (just to and from the airport).

1) Rundetaarn (The Round Tower)

This building has been an icon of Copenhagen since 1642 and it’s the oldest functioning observatory in Europe. I had seen images of this place before but nothing compares to being inside the tower and walking up that steep slope. The view at the top made all the huffing and puffing I did while going up totally worth it. Admission is only 25 Danish kroner which translates to about $3.15 (soooo worth it).

2) The University of Copenhagen Botanical Garden

This was an unexpected find for my friends and I but inside it was breathtaking. We got to go up those winding staircases and see the garden from up high. If you aren’t into gardens you might just think “well these are just a bunch of plants”… and you would be right, but it was such a cool experience and makes for some great greenhouse pictures. It’s also FREE!

3) Strøget (Street)

This 1.1 mile long street is a prime tourist attraction. It’s care free and lined with shops and restaurants. We passed by this street at least once everyday on our way to and from other areas of Copenhagen because it’s so extensive and the city is that small.

4) Nyhavn

This harbor was at the TIP TOP of my Copenhagen list. How could it not be with all these colorful houses? Restaurants trail up and down the harbor and while we were here we ducked into a restaurant for dinner and finally tried Smørrebrød, a classic Danish dish. Being that I’m vegetarian mine basically resembled an avocado toast but no complaints about that here.

5) The Black Diamond – The Royal Library

This library is unlike any other library I have ever been in. On one side we have this modern architecture unlike any other library I’ve ever seen, and then as you walk further into the library and its rooms you’ll find a mix of that Neomodern architecture and ore “classic library”.

6) Christiansborg Palace

In and around Christiansborg Palace is a must see when visiting Copenhagen. If my memory serves me right you can also head to the top and get a wicked nice view of the city!

My final recommendation is to eat ALL THE DANISH PASTRIES!!! I didn’t take any pictures cause I’m a DUMMY, but please go to any bageri.
