One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker

17302495Book description:

Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents’ tragic death and Kacey’s self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would…and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

Giselle’s Review:

“I am obsessed.” That was the first thing I said after finishing One Tiny Lie. And yes, I said it…out loud. I can’t be sure as to what exactly I was referring to when I uttered those three words, but the list of possibilities probably goes like this.

I am obsessed with this book.

I am obsessed with these characters.

I am obsessed with K.A. Tucker’s writing.

I am obsessed with the feelings and emotions One Tiny Lie brought out in me.

One Tiny Lie can be summed up as heart-wrenching, intense, and emotional. This is a book that makes you feel every emotion possible. Therefore, it is one of my favorite reads of the year.

I regret not getting to this book sooner because it is truly one of those books that will stay with me long after finishing it.

The journey K.A. Tucker took me with this novel felt almost endless, but sadly, it wasn’t really endless. The closer I got to the ending of this novel the sadder I became because I just did not want to ever leave these characters and the emotions they were brining out in me, both happy and devastating.

One Tiny Lie touches upon so many things. It deals with some heavy topics but the heavy issues within the novel are somehow balanced out by the humor and lighter aspects of the book, creating a perfect balance and a perfect novel. One Tiny Lie will leave you feeling like you have the saddest, heaviest weight over your heart one minute, and then like you could laugh for days the next. This book will leave no emotion untouched.

You will feel hate for Ashton’s actions, but love for him at the same time. You will feel confusion and sadness for Livie. You will feel humor and joy for all the awkward moments and conversations Livie goes through with Reagan and Kacey. You will feel your heart breaking and then overflowing. You will feel like you are getting Dr. Stayner’s advice right alongside Livie and his advice might make you want to go and get your own Dr. Stayner because he is THAT good.

“Dr. Stayner once suggested that all people face a day in their life that defines who they are, that shapes who they will become, that sets them on their path. He said that one day will either guide or haunt them until they take their last breath.”

One Tiny Lie is a novel about the hardships we go through and how they shape us. It is a novel about discovering who you really are and what you really want, not just who you PLAN to be.

One Tiny Lie is also a fantastic romance. Ashton will have you feeling a lot of emotions when it comes to his relationship with Livie. Hate, lust, but also an immense amount of love. Their relationship was a giant roller-coaster ride, and at times I didn’t know whether I wanted to stay on or get off, but I suggest staying on because in the end the ride is so worth it. <3

“Because you’re not a one-night girl, Irish.” Leaning in to place a kiss on my jawline, he whispers, “You’re my forever girl.”

This book not only had me on the verge of sobbing, but it also had me laughing out loud. I could not hold in my laughter with this group! The dialogue K.A. Tucker wrote for these characters was utter perfection. Not only does her writing have the power to make you want to throw a book in outrage and cry hysterically, but it also has the power to make you die laughing.

“ I …uh…he’s…” I said that out loud! I’m already babbling my thoughts without realizing it! Puppet strings! Gah! Ohmigod. Did I just say this out loud too? (…) I can’t tell. I need to stop thinking. All thinking must stop! “Relax, Irish! You’ve got crazy eyes. Kind of freaking me out now.”

“He’s five hundred for two hours!” Swinging her hand Ashton’s way, she adds, “Seven-fifty for him because he’s young. You should hear how he makes my sister scream!”

One Tiny Lie is a MUST READ emotional, intense, funny, and heartbreaking novel that will have you experiencing every single emotion possible. If you enjoyed Ten Tiny Breaths, Kacey and Trent’s story, and the first novel in this series, then there is no doubt in my mind that you will absolutely love this book. I can not wait to get started on the next book in this series Four Seconds To Lose because I am sure K.A. Tucker will not disappoint.
