Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.
“Colleen Hoover reminds readers that love is a fragile thing, built from courage, hope, and tears. Every person with a heartbeat should read this book.”

You might be asking yourself, why I put a Spotify playlist at the beginning of my review? Well this playlist, which I named after the book, consists of songs that I believe to be powerful, heartbreaking, emotional, and real. Everything that It Ends With Us is. If you are looking for a book that will make you feel, both everything beautiful and everything ugly, and everything that comes with that thing we call life, pick. this. book. up.
“We’re just alike,” he said, repeating himself from earlier. “Plants and humans?” I asked. He shook his head. “No. Me and you.”
I can guarantee that you will experience every emotion that Lily and all these characters feel…and it will be far from an easy journey. Which is not to say that you won’t enjoy this book and fall in love with the characters and the novel itself, because there are so many things to just love about this novel. Starting with the writing, the humor, the banter and the conversations. But this book will change you. It will break you. It will have you thinking things you never thought you would think, and feelings emotions that you never thought you’d feel.
“There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.”
Everything about this book is so real, it hurts in the best ways and the worst ways. You’ll experience all sorts of love and heartbreak with It Ends With Us and the brutal honesty of this book will take you aback, but you won’t be able to put this book down.
“I think about how sometimes, no matter how convinced you are that your life will turn out a certain way, all that certainty can be washed away with a simple change in tide.”
I know the fact that I’m (and hopefully most people are) being incredibly vague about what goes on in this story might be rather strange/annoying, but in order for this book to have its intended effect, you need to go into it completely blind and with your heart and mind wide-open. This is really Colleen Hoover like you’ve never seen her before, and in my opinion, if you were only ever going to read one novel by her (something I don’t know why you would do, but for arguments sake lets say that’s the case), I would tell you to read It Ends With Us.
“That’s what fifteen minutes can do to a person. It can destroy them. It can save them.”
