Synopsis

Matisse Evans is determined to make her sophomore year of college successful after failing out of a prestigious art school and spending a horribly boring gap year at home. Despite her focus, time isn’t on her side as she struggles to hold down three jobs so she can afford her first apartment while juggling course work. In the chaos of it all, Beau Grady moves in and shakes up her world. A college dropout and tattooed bad boy, the rumors about Beau mean one thing for Matisse—trouble. Paralyzed by the fear that she’s missing out on life, Matisse discovers plans may unravel, but what rises in their wake can be worth the uncertainty.

After spending the summer couch surfing, Beau Grady moves into an empty room at his ex-girlfriend’s Portland bungalow, skipping his senior year of college to spend his days working at a Vietnamese food cart instead. Once a star hockey player and gifted student, he’s put his life on hold after receiving a life-altering diagnosis, complacent to live in the moment. Hiding behind false rumors and bad habits, Beau falls for Matisse, letting her believe the worst until their relationship blooms into something they both can’t ignore. Falling for her means having to face a future he’d rather forget, but loving her just might be worth it.

Giselle’s Review:

Between Everything and Us, with its flawed beautiful characters, incredible writing and plot, and the greatest angst and steam, has completely captured my heart and soul.
This novel had me anticipating it’s every turn and it just felt so unique. I’m pretty sure it had me actually “waiting with bated breath” every chapter because I did not know what would happen next. The romance is so so incredible and I’m a huge fan of the roommates to lovers transition, so yes yes yes to that.
The chemistry between Beau and Mati was just EVERYTHING. Beau was also EVERYTHING. God damn, that boy was just perfect. I could seriously gush about him for weeks. He’s caring and sweet, stubborn and hard-headed, but so incredibly charming. And Mati is so fierce. Even when she didn’t show it all that often, you can just feel that she has that “oomph” that every fierce heroine has.
Not only was this story a romance but it also has that “discovering yourself and who you are” feel, especially when it comes to Mati’s story.
I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone so I’m going to end this review by saying to everyone that they must pick this book up!! Rebecca is just amazing and I’m definitely going to read everything by her. I can’t wait for the next novel in this series, but no worries this ones a standalone. Hopefully we can get more Beau and Mati down the line though. 😉

Silvana’s Review:

To be able to describe this book is such a hard task. I’m not even sure if I can use any word other than PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT. I seriously couldn’t believe how much this book did affect me on an emotional level. Rebecca Paula always writing to hurt my heart. But yet again she always puts it back together.

I am Rebecca Paula’s number one fan. YEP guys. Sorry not sorry but I am 100000.01% in love with her and her angsty fluffy books. It’s like she does it magically. You never get prepared for her books. Even if you read, reread the synopsis or seen teasers [she likes to tease. A LOT.] The book itself is something completely not what you expect. I love that about her.

Was this book ANGSTY? Since the very first page Becka put me my heart on the line. You just fall in love with Mati and Beau instantly. Insta-love. It was such a nice thing to see their relationship grow. And those scenes!!!! You always write some serious sexy scenes Becka /cough thanks from the bottom of my heart. /give me more

The book – it was my kind of book. I devoured it. I enjoyed it lots. As always RP never disappoints. She creates characters that are so frigging real. So raw. So flawed. But they feel as powerful like they can conquer the world. They are badass and sassy and pretty freaking incredible, also swoony. /cough SWOONY IS LITTLE TO HOW THEY REALLY ARE OKAY. Beau [heart eyes] As I was saying, her characters are like rough diamonds. They have a SPARK, THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL. Their story, written by Rebecca, feels so perfect. She always gives them a voice and their voices are loud, people. Every last one of her characters deserves an award. And Rebecca as well.

You complete me.

If you’re looking for a book with:

    • Friends to lovers
    • Sexy Skype calls [wink wink] that kind yes
    • Angsty relationship
    • “JUST KISS ALREADY” MOMENTS
    • A pretty damn badass heroine
    • A pretty flawed hero
    • TEXTING WITH EACH OTHER WHEN THEY ARE APART

Excerpt

She grabs my hands and pins them together. I don’t fight off her touch. I let Mati gather them and raise them above my head. “I think it’s so easy to fall into the world when you’re not ready,” she says seriously. Her free hand brushes over my brows, then sweeps down my nose. “It’s such a big place and we’re all very tiny in the scheme of things.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“It sucks being an outlier, Beau. I get it. But in spite of everything, we’re always going to feel a bit lost. It’s the part of growing up that no one ever tells you about.”

“You’re very wise today, Miss Mati.”

“I’m lots things, mister. I’m…” Her voice drops off and she nervously glances down at my chest. “I think I’m a little bit in love with you actually.”

At least I’m sitting. That doesn’t help the way my stomach drops though.

I snake my hands out of her grip and brace them around her face. There’s a reason why outliers exist on the outside—they can’t find their way in.

Mati is no outlier to me.

We kiss for what seems like hours. I don’t care if it’s for days. But we kiss until my mouth wipes away the nervousness in that confession of hers, while I still cowardly hide behind mine.

In the wild, in the sun, Mati and I are…well, we’re something I never thought I’d have or find. And that’s everything.
